My FIX, please test.
I have the ASUS 8420 Deluxe running with XP on an AMD 1700 machine (clean, basically only XP installed), Samsung DF955 19" 120hz at 800x600 monitor. I have had my Card/Glasses about two weeks and spent about one week finding and then reading everything I can about getting the 3d glasses to work. I guess you could include trying everything, too.

I came across this strange combination on my own that seemed to work. Prior to this, only the original drivers seemed to work, and they locked up sometimes under XP and had few game settings.

THIS IS WHAT SEEMS TO WORK
THE DRIVERS
_First_ I install (and reboot)the latest ASUS Driver from the ASUS website (for 8420 Deluxe).
File Asus Win2KXP43.45A.zip
NOTE this is the ASUS driver, and not the Nvidia driver. I installed them on a clean XP machine. I also tried to remove the microsoft drivers that are installed by default before loading the Asus, I don't know if they actually stayed uninstalled, but it was as close to clean as I could get before installing the Asus 43.45 video drivers. I think installing the ASUS instead of the nvidia drivers helped solve the "glasses not turning on" problem.

_Second_ I installed the Nvidia Stereo 3d drivers (from www.guru3d.com) version 43.03. This causes the the Nvidia stereo section to show up in the Asus driver (Yeah!). That latest version of the ASUS driver by itself has no stereo control panel. After installing the Nvidia stereo drivers, an Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 4200 Tab which can be expanded shows up in the advanced settings for the Asus card / display panel. In the expanded part are several selectors for 3d stereo settings.

This seems to work fine but here are some things you needn't and maybe shouldn't do.

I actually have my monitor hooked to the regular VGA port (not the 2nd dvi adapted port, as so many people try -- It is true that attempting to do this may cause the glasses to turn on instead of being stuck with one lens dark, but it seemed to only work for a while and not when I actually wanted to play a game -- lock up time then.) So, you can use the regular VGA port, and I think this works better than the DVI adapted port which I believe ended up killing my machine with the above driver combo several times.

Also, DO NOT SET THE Regitedit entry for the ASUS glasses to 2. This caused me a lockup and NEVER worked under this driver scenario. You can try 1 and you can try 0 (zero) settings. I do not know which is best, but both seemed to work so far.

Some other points, when running the medical test, half the time the squares were inverted and half the time they were correct. Hitting CTRL-W seemed to switch them during the test, but had no permanent effect on the setting, so I am unsure whether the glasses will always be in the right sync. I viewed JPS files, and they always came up correct and did not need to to have the eyes switched.

As far as XP goes, except for the original drivers which sorta worked, all the other things I read and tried in many permutations did not seem to work well. You can help refine this solution, please try it out and report back. The only games I have are the ones that came with the card (sad, I know), and I have only tested it with Aquanox.

Also, there seems to be a hint of the other eye's view in my glasses. Is this normal, or should I invest in a better pair of 3d glasses that darken / sync better. Since this is the only pair I have ever used, I really need to know. But the -3D does work.
