Entertaining news but baloney (and Katzenberg probably knows it). I remember hearing similar predictions during the 3-D movie fads of 1953 and 1983.

People who claim that 3-D will eventually become a standard feature of all movies, in the way that sound and then color have, are overlooking one crucial fact: Unlike sound and color, current 3-D movie technology requires active audience participation (wearing special glasses). As long as that requirement exists, moviegoers have consistently shown that 3-D will be treated as a niche gimmick whose novelty wears off quickly.
