Just got the word; the Chicken Little DVD (even the special collectors edition) is flat. No 3D of any kind. Details on the DVD are here: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/chickenlittle-pressrelease.html, and I had correspondance with the individual who did the 3D for theaters. He's pretty sure it's a flat DVD only. Oh well. | ||

The consumer 3D market is so "Little" it isn't even worth replicating a few 1000 dvds at most. | ||

I think that even if the market were larger Disney would opt to not release a 3D video. The reason is that they are trying to use 3D to get people into theaters. They don't want people to have the experience in their homes. | ||

Um, I don't think that's right. Who owns Dimension Films? My DVD of Spy Kids 3-D has Disney trailers on it. If Disney owns Dimension, then could this be a first foray into HT 3-D? Maybe a marketing shot over the bow? Anybody know what the sales numbers were on both the Anaglyph and the Sensio versions? | ||

Okay, I've got the ownership information. According to Wikipedia, "Dimension Films is a motion picture label, formerly used as Bob Weinstein's label within Miramax Films, to produce and release genre films. The Weinstein Brothers took this label with them when they departed the Disney-owned Miramax in October 2005, and it now forms part of The Weinstein Company. Some of its most well-known movies include Spy Kids and Scream." Spy Kids 3-D Game Over was released in theatres in 2003, and presumably on DVD in 2004, a year before the Disney connection was severed. But it's still kind of a very distant aunt's-brother's-cousin's-son-thrice-removed sort of an relationship, and probably not appropriate enough for this debate. ALL the Spy Kids 3-D were either Anaglyph or Sensio (the former getting 99.44% or far more) Shark Boy was done the same way. I agree; the 3D is a way of drawing into the theater. That's another difference; 99+% of the people who saw Chicken Little saw it flat, while all the theaters who showed Spy Kids and Shark Boy had glasses in their hands.
