Hello everybody,

I wanted to start using my (infamous) cy-visor DH-4400 (The 3D version with two separate microdisplays). It had been stashed away in a box for about a year. Unfortunately I am seeing only snow (black background with white dots) on the display for the right eye.

This has happened earlier, occasionally, but never lasted for more than some minutes or until the next reset. Now it is permanent. Unfortunatley my warranty is long gone and I don't think I want to send it to the manufacturer in South Korea !!!

I would appreciate to hear from the experts in this group whether it makes sense to repair it. That is, what possible causes could this have and could the problem be fixed by giving the whole HMD unit to, say an electronics store that repairs TVs, together with the technical specifications of the Microdisplay (its either a MD800G6 or MD832G9, I have the manufacturers tech. specs. for both)

Thanks and regards

Soren

Seems like the only lively discussion around here happens in regard to eMagin products .... how about a comment from someone who has been using 3D stereo for more than just the past 4 weeks ?!

OK Soren. Here you are : Take your cy-visor , carry it to the garage and place it in the trash. Then go to your computer and order a Z800. I've had one for more than 4 weeks and am just delighted. Hope that helps you out.

Soren, You might have this link, but if not, this will take you to a page where you can ask the company that made your HMD a qustion about it. Maybe they can help.
I know it's not a great reply to your qustion but it's all I have. http://www.personaldisplay.com/content/support/fmd_sub05_05.asp

Well, I have little to compare it to. But I must say that I was quite satisfied with the HMD. However, there were some issues that might be generic to HMD/FMDs in this (still low) price class, but they could also be specific to the Cy-visor ... you tell me :-)

* It is impossible to read text in smaller fonts if it is not displayed exactly in the center of the image. Trying to do this produces incredible eyestrain. Or is this an indication for defective optics ?

* The colors need to be readjusted every now and then since otherwise red turns pink and the color contrast will generally give way to something that can only be escribed as pale.

** Now, it has to be said that despite these issues, the 3D stereo effect is(was) great !
