Hi. "I LOVE 3D" and I really want to start to get a basic set up put together, but I know pretty much nothing about the technology, so I could REALLY use your help. Right now I have an Infocus X1A projector, and a Panasonic LCD rear projection TV, and I’m wanting to watch 3D movies (both ANAGLYPH movies, and HQFS with shutter glasses). Given what I already have, how can I maximize my 3D capabilities with these products? 3D CONVERTERS / SHUTTER GLASSES: 1.) The Virtual FX site says that their converter doesn't work with anything except CRT type televisions. Is that true, and if so is there a way around that? 2.) What shutter glasses/converters will work the best with DLP projectors and /or LCD rear projection TV’S, if any? PROJECTION SCREENS: 1.) What is the best screen for 3D, on a budget (glass bead, high contrast, high gain, silver, any particular product or manuf., etc.)? 2.) What is the difference between HIGH CONTRAST and HIGH GAIN? 3. Can you use a SILVER (high contrast) screen for all of your projection (even the non 3D stuff), or do you need to own two screens? And is there an affordable version online anywhere? OPTIMIZING/HOOKING EVERYTHING UP: 1. Is there any way to OPTIMIZE my LCD rear projection TV and my X1A PROJECTOR for 3D? 2. What cables do you recommend for hooking up the projector? 3. How do I hook it up to my television components? Any tips, components (signal booster, splitters, etc.) I might need? Sorry for all of the NEWBIE questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Anaglyph source material will work with anything. Most shutter-glasses won't work with most projectors. Most converters won't work directly with a projector*** but you might be able to run a 'two stage' software converter on a computer to anaglyph if you don't mind lower quality. I did this once for a short clip and people didn't notice. You can also convert from a shutter-glasses feature to anaglyph in a computer for projection. Most 'affectionados' won't use converters at all. I've had good sucess with theatrical screen perf. vinyl; it isn't directional. | ||

Hi Guys! Thank you both very much for the information. Larry - I'll look into the two stage software converter. That sounds cool. But I am really hoping to get my projector to work with the shutter glasses too, so I can watch HQFS movies, if at all possible. Alan - Yes, this site is GREAT, and I've been learning a lot just digging around on it for the last few days. It was pretty exciting just to find out that a site like this exists. And the 3DFlightSim site looks really helpful. I haven't had a chance to check everything out yet, but it looks like you may know how to get a DLP projector to work in 3D? I'll check out your site some more tonight. Thanks for the link! I'm still learning so pretty much any further tips that anyone is willing to share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Greg |
