Hi,
I am searching for an NVIDIA 3D Stereo driver for an DELL Precision M70 Laptop. The Laptop incl. an NVIDIA Quadro FX Go 1400 video card with 256MByte RAM.

The current installed video driver (NVIDIA OEM for DELL) shows version number 6.14.10.6771 on all dll:

nv4_disp.dll
n4_mini.sys
nvoglnt.dll
nvcpl.dll
nvrsde.dll
nview.dll
nvshell.dll
nvwdmcpl.dll

What would be the correct NVIDIA 3DStereo driver to mach these version numbers ?

I have searched on NVIDIA webpage and found the last matching driver combination of...

71.84_3dstereo.exe
71.84_win2kxp_english.exe

This is basically recommended for quadro fx video cards on desktop PCs.
Don't think that the 71.84_win2kxp_english.exe video card driver will fit on the "fx go 1400".

But could I use even the 71.84_3dstereo.exe ?
Would that match the "fx go 1400" driver versions ?

I searching for the matching 3dstereo driver, because I want to use the dual output for stereo 3d projection with 2 beamers and polarized filters. The forum says that video driver and 3dstereo driver must match the same version number to get the function running (to show L+R angle view seperated on both monitors/beamer).

Would be great if someone could help me in that matter.

Thx in advance and kind regards,
fmp_r

Hi. You can use the 71.84 drivesr only if you will upgrade the graphic card drivers to 71.84 as well. Just now you use 67.71 drivers version ,and I am afrid there exist no compatible game stereo drivers for this version (the closest is 61.77_3dstereo.exe). So you must upgrade or downgrade the drivers (I suggest upgrade) ...

In addtion keep im mind that you must disable the Quadro native stereo OpenGL functions in the control panel, if you want to use the game drivers (and disable game drivers if you want to use the OpenGL pro one). I have from this reason a dual boot on my system - one for games and second for OpenGL stereo applications ...

Hi,
thx for your quick support.

I have found/used the DELL available NVIDIA video 71.84 driver and upgrated already to that.
After that I have installed the 3Dstereo 71.84 driver, too.

I edit the registry as described in this forum...

1.) Activate selection for all stereo viewer types:
- Start the Windows Registry editor at c:\windows\regedit.exe
- Choose: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> Software --> NVidia Corp --> Global --> Stereo3D
- Select in the menu: edit -> new -> DWORD
- Create new entry: ShowAllViewerTypes
- Set dword to 1

2.) Activate preliminary OSD (on screen display) - this feature is obviously in early stage of development:
- Start the Windows Registry editor at c:\windows\regedit.exe
- Choose: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> Software --> NVidia Corp --> Global --> Stereo3D
- Select edit -> new -> DWORD
- Create new entry: StereoOSDEnable
- Set DWORD to 1
The OSD will come up automatically when using any hotkey

...to make all posible settings active.

Finally, the NVIDIA Info shows:

Processor: Pentium M 2GHz
OS: WinXP (SPack 1)
DirectX-Version: DirectX9.0 or higher
Graphicprocessor: Quadro FX Go 1400
Video Bios Version: 5.41.02.29.A3
IRQ: 9
BUS Typ: PCI Express x16
Available Memory: 256MB
ForceWare Version: 71.84
TV Encoder Type: NVIDIA internal

NVIDIA Graphic Settings:

nView: Dualhead (DualView)
using 2x NEC TFT Multisync 1980SXi for test only !
(Both are set to resolution 1280x1024 and 60Hz)
If function run I will use 2x DLP beamer !

NVIDIA Stereo Settings:

Stereo Split: 100% (Profi)
Stereotype: DUAL VGA Output (Dep3D)
Stereo Gamma: 1.00

NVIDIA Stereo Setting & Test:
Display Size: 19.0" (not sure if NVIDIA requires setting for CRT or TFT ? TFT 19" is in reality bit bigger than CRT 19", but I don't think that makes any different on that settings, right?)
Resolution: 1280x1024
Frequency: 60Hz

If I try to activate the Stereo Mode, the medical test pic will show on the left side monitor and on the right side monitor only a part of the pattern of it could be seen and it is complete destroyed and mixed with graphical elements from the desktop. I think to identify a picture of a womans face or something like that (nothing I have on my desktop or in any other use case. So. must be from NVIDIA test, I guess)

So, left side OK and right side complete mess.

If I try to start the testmode (The moving NVIDIA Logo in the several gates) the system will hang and I have to reboot the PC.

By the way, I have updated the driver without removing the old version from the system. Dell says that this is no issue for their customized install packages.

Could you please help in that matter again ?

Many thx in advance and kind regards,
fmp_r

What you have indicate totaly messed drivers intalation. Dell is wrong, non-removing the drivers can be a problem.
You are not the first one faced with this problem - I had solved idnetical situation several times on some of my systems.

You should do following:
Totaly deinstal stereo drivers.
Reboot.
Totaly deinstal graphic card drivers.
Reboot.
Resintal graphic card drivers.
Reboot.
Resintal stereo drivers.
Reboot.
Disable the OpenGL drivers.
Without activating any non-offcialy supported
function thest Enable and test the nVida game drivers functions.

If this will not still help, reisnstal OS.

Btw. Do the OpenGL stereo drivers works O.K. on you card ? Did you checked them with CRT monitor
anf some simple page flipping OpenGl application (e.g. http://www.gali-3d.com/archive/articles/StereoOpenGL/stereo_simple.zip)

Hi,

I did the deinstal as you described. In addition I used the tool DRIVER CLEANER PRO to make sure that all NVIDIA driver software is realy removed from the system (incl. 3dstereo software).

No success, still the same issue as described.
Maybe it depends on the DELL (Laptop Custom) driver ?
Not sure if this is really identic to the orig. NVIDIA (Desktop PC) driver set and therefore maybe not 100% compatible ?!

I tried to install the orig. NVIDIA driver set (for standard gfx cards), too, but it doesn't recognize the laptops gfx card.

So, finally the DELL driver set are required in any case on that system.

Maybe you have some additional ideas to fix that ?

Kind Regards,
fmp_r

P.S.: Would wish that the DUAL VGA stereo3d mode would be incl. in NVIDIA driver as standard setting and not as add. plug-in software and the regedit hack. Then I wouldn't run in these issues, I guess :o(

Hi again,
on info in addition:

- anaglyph (Red/Blue Glasses)
- Horizontal Interleaved
- Vertical Interleaved
....etc.

all the modes using only one screen runs so far with the test pic.

So, seems to be an issue with the DUAL VGA Mode only.

I do not undertand following:

Why do you want to activate DUAL VGA mode , when you have no dual output from your laptop ?

The only mode having sense, is probably the page flipping mode with laptop screen disabled + vizualised by the help of external CRT monitor ...

Can you tell us whatever page flipping works + whatever the non-game OpenGl stereo works ?

Hi,
sorry I forgot to note that I am using this Laptop with an DELL docking station incl. dual output. That's how I have connected the 2x NEC 19" TFT displays.

Standard Desktop Dual Mode runs without any issues.

Intend was, if the 3dstereo DUAL VGA mode would run with that setup, that we connect two beamers instead of the two tft displays incl. polarized filter to beam the 3dstereo on a silverscreen.

That would give us more flexible than using a desktop setup. The other thing is that all of our employees in our company using DELL laptop as a company wide standard. So, if that would run, we would have the opportunity to install one complete setup (beamer, silverscreen, dock.-station, etc.) in a room and the user has only to connect his laptop on that docking station, activate the 3dstereo dual vga mode and let's go :o)

We want to use that setup for technical purpose (CAD and Simulation). Games have lower priority for me (more for my personal private fun :o)

The NVIDIA driver menu calls out the Open GL CAD application we use, too (Solid Edge) andalso others we are working with external partners (ProEngineer, Catia, etc.).

Therefore I thought it would be a great alternative to more3d software, which does nearly the same, but with license costs of about 5000 EURO.

Kind Regards,
fmp_r

I do not belive there is any method a docking station can ad an true second output to a graphic card ... I do not thing the laptopt outputs can make such thing possible ...

But anyway, some questions:

1) If you put the laptopt in clone mode + the OpenGL (non-game) drivers to stereo clone mode, does it produce correct stereo output ?

2) Does the page flipping (through game drivers or OpenGl drivers) work at all ?

We vers loving in our company some time ago similar problem - to use laptop for portables tereo presentation or something alse ? We had finaly decided to sue barebone PC - cheper, more reliable and more powerful choice than overpriced special laptop.

Hi,
the DELL Precision M70 has a built-in NVIDIA Quadro FX Go 1400 PCI Express x16 gfx card incl. 256MB Ram, which supports basically dual vga output as any standard gfx card with that chipset/config, even if the laptops hardware does not support/has 2 vga connectors itself.

DELLs D/Port and/or D/Dock Port Replicator (docking station) upgrades the laptop with the second vga connector. So, you can connect two displays/beamer to the dock station to use dual head display mode with the laptop.

That runs really perfect with no differents to a standard desktop pc setup, but I am not sure if this runs 100% same (as on usual gfx cards) with stereo3d, too. Seems not :o(

to 1.) It clones the picture, but I can't identify any changes between. Means shows no stereo3d related picture (R+L different).

to 2.) Tested it on single display mode and it runs with the test mode from nvidia. Seems to be OK.

Kind Regards and many thx for your support,
fmp_r

to 1)
Did you tested an OpenGl stereo capable application when the Quadro stereo was in stereo clone mode (not page fiping)

Try this:
http://www.gali-3d.com/archive/articles/StereoOpenGL/stereo_simple.zip

You must see totaly diferent image in each view (rad and blue) or your setup is wrong ...

The question is whatevr the docking station only duplicat the existing 1 output or whatever it realy activat the second outout. Does e.g. horizontal spam mode work O.K. ?

to 2) It sound pormmising ... 1) shoudl work in this case.

I suggest you to look for OpenGl stereoscopic application supporting the native Quadro OpenGls tereo futures ...

There exist application covering all non-game topics (video, still images, VRML models), most of them even free ...
