I am looking for a quick way to get up and running with a shutter system and CRT monitor. Not interested in gaming or movies, but instead generating simple targets (for example in visual basic). My understanding is that alternate columns of pixels are synced to each shutter. If this is true can I generate targets for each eye that simply respect this alternate column of pixels format? Additionally what cost efficient system would get me up and running the fastest?

Or would double syncing work? My understanding is that these systems use the top and bottom half of the screen output as the left and right eyes images. Is this correct? If so couldn't I have my code generate the images that I want to use and the hardware will do the rest for me? If this is all true could someone recommend what hardware to try?
