I downloaded Stereoscopic Player thinking I would be able to do some cool things with my Spy Kids 3D DVD. I put it in and couldn't seem to choose any settings that made it look like it was working correctly.

I thought this was supposed to convert one type of 3D into another. Maybe that is a little foolish, but I thought I might be able to convert it to pageflipped or field sequential with this software. If I can't do that, what is this software really good for?

Newbie,
Matt

Peter Wimmer's Stereoscopic Player works exactly as advertised on Wimmer's website (www.3dtv.at). The website clearly states which specific stereoscopic input formats the program will accept for conversion into page-flipped or other 3-D viewing methods. (Anaglyph isn't one of the accepted input formats; the program will OUTPUT anaglyph converted from other input formats.)

You shouldn't slam the program because you didn't learn the relevant facts about it before downloading.

There are three editions of Spy Kids 3D available: (1) Anaglyph, (2) Interlaced (=field-sequential) and (3) Sensio (=side-by-side).

Only editions (2) and (3) are compatible with Stereoscopic Player, because (1) doesn't provide a full color image for both left and right view.

Of course it would be great if anaglyph DVDs could be converted to other formats, too. But using existing algorithms, results are either bad (using red channel as left grayscale image and blue+green channel as right grayscale image) or processing is not possible in realtime (see my research on DeAnaglyph: http://www.3dtv.at/Knowhow/DeAnaglyph_en.aspx).

Btw., the interlaced and Sensio editions are available here: http://www.cwonline.com

Sorry, I can see how that might come off as a slam. I didn't mean it that way, my "what is it good for?" was an earnest curiousity.

I looked on the website for more specifics but couldn't seem to find them.

I do think it's a fabulous program (or at least, it must be) and I've seen lots of people rave about it. If I couldn't use it with my anaglyph Spy Kids, I was just wondering exactly what I could use it for.

If that information is posted clearly on www.3dtv.at, could someone post a direct link? I couldn't seem to browse to it.

Sorry for the offense,
Matt

Matt,
The direct link to the Stereoscopic Player features list is: www.3dtv.at/Products/Player/Features_en.aspx.

If this direct link doesn't work, do this:
1. Go to the www.3dtv.at homepage.
2. Click on "Products" in the upper menu bar.
3. In the page that appears, click on "Features" under "Stereoscopic Player" in the left menu. This will open the detailed features page.

Peter Wimmer is considering adding anaglyph
input to Stereoscopic Player so no promises
but in a later version it might do what you
ask of it. Email Peter with a request for
anaglyph input to show your support.

i have had significant success converting anaglyph to field seqential using Stereo Movie Maker, but this was with video where I did have access to a full-color left-eye view to mate up with the blue-channel right view (right view was filtered out using stereo movie maker).
