Slingshot Entertainment has just released 4
3-D titles on DVD in field-sequential format.

These are large format films that n'Wave Pictures either produced or distributed and include:
ENCOUNTERS IN THE THIRD DIMENSION
ALIEN ENCOUNTER (OR ADVENTURE)
HAUNTED CASTLE
ULTIMATE G'S

They should be available now. If you cannot find them in your area, try going to the Ken Crane's
Website or to the IO Display Systems website, which is: www.i-glasses.com/slingshot for more info.

These were made from 15 perf negative and transferred in ntsc, but are coded to play internationally. Eventually, the distributor may
re-transfer these titles (based on a conversation
from several months ago with Enterprise DVD, which supervises the mastering end of it) in HD, however, no guarantee this will happen or if it will make any difference in the future. The DVD's look good, sound good and work.

Enjoy! Then contact the major studios who control the real classic titles and nicely request that
they start bringing films such as: IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE, CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, HOUSE OF WAX, CHARGE AT FEATHER RIVER, HONDO, KISS ME KATE, THE MAZE, MONEY FROM HOME, CEASE FIRE, DANGEROUS MISSION, PHANTOM OF THE RUE MORGUE, AMITYVILLE 3-D and so on in the same manner Slingshot has elected to do. If enough of you do this, then just maybe the studios will respond before their negatives turn to jelly. Same should also happen with Imax Corp, which controls many of the other 3-D large format titles. In case many of you haven't noticed, T-REX, CIRQUE DU SOLEIL and other 3-D Imax titles are going out flat on DVD, which is unfortunate.

Can someone setup a petition or voting thing to IMAX and others to release 3D movies? Maybe if they see the intrest and the sales numbers of the Slingshot DVDs, they'll consider it.

RE Imax 3-D Movies

There are fewer Imax 3-D films as the budgets for these films are relatively low, compared to Hollywood commerical feature product. The cost of camera negative, for example, is several times more than 35mm - and then you double it for 3-D. There are also other budget considerations to contend with, and with the closure of a few Imax 3-D venues around the world (some are being reformatted for 8 perf and not so sure 3-D is even a consideration) havent helped this effort. However, there is at least one company that is investing time and money into stereoscopic 24p HD image acquisition, and with other technology available to help enhance this material to give it the appearance having been filmed in large format, there may a light at the end of the tunnel for large format 3-D audiences that want more.

Tests have been underway for some time, including a recent non - linear 3-D HD edit, which was said to have "turned heads" at a recent trade show in the USA. Also, director James Cameron has been in production on a new 3-D large format Titanic documentary using proprietary HD gear instead of film, so it seems safe to assume that a concerted effort is being made to assure that very high quality 3-D films will be available to see in large format theatres worldwide in the foreseeable future. Next Year, Imax will be releasing a film that it has kept its committment to complete, a documentary in Imax 3-D about the new space station and filmed in space...which should be the most amazing look at the earth from space ever. It may also be technically possible to reformat older 3-D classic titles to large format for, lets say, midnight or special screenings, however, uncertain if anyone at Imax is actually entertaining the idea at this time.
Then, of course, there is the issue of ancillary for these titles. Only time will tell.

I wrote a polite letter to Sligshot telling them that whatever numbers they are selling on the IMAX 3D they can probably expect from any 3D feature they can get the rights too; Hollywood tends to have better plots. I doubt sales are big, but I sent them links to all the 3D film lists and am hoping someone will have the presence of mind to make a few 3D conversions.

Hey Cinemavision3D,

I think you are spamming the boards TOO much.

I think we all get the idea.

This site looks interesting, and even has some films that they are converting like Lawrence Of Arabia. They also claim they are getting Dial M For Murder, and others for DVD

Don't hold your breath!

They've been saying things like this for ages, without coming up with the goods.

They also want $50 up front for a DVD. The Slingshot's are priced to sell, not to tell.

My guess is they are VHS's that have been written to DVD. A better bet (for now) would be for someone with all the 3D CED's to capture them and re-render to DVD.

Before I forget (old-timers disease...). Di$ney made the first 3D cartoon (a music short) in (my memory...) 1957. That, and the first Cinemascope cartoon (same year) are on the Fantasia 2000 DVD as 'bonus material', along with some background. I had little hope that they would put it in 3D on the DVD. They didn't. Flat. Not that anyone out there would buy the DVD just in the hope that the 'bonus material' would be 3D. Don't bother. Since it was drawn in 'layers' if you have a delay converter (such as the C3D, etc.... I do) it will do credible psudo 3D. It probably would be a good bet for these gadgets that look at the MPEG objects and convert based on relative motion. A few bucks more from Di$ney to make it right would have made me happy.

Everyone,

We have 3D DVD's available for purchase right now, mostly adult related titles. All of our DVD's are made directly from either Digital Video or Hi-8 masters and we utilize a high bitrate of 8000000 Bit/Sec. On our newer DVD titles, we are also including both a 2D and 3D version, as well as an Extras menu including 3D slow motion, and a large gallery of 3D stills from the video. The stills are amazing, and you can see some of the samples on our web site. Our prices run from $24.95 to $29.95 for our DVD products.

We also have a large amount of stock footage in 3D of civil war re-enactments, footage of midevil rennaisaince fair (including some jousting matches), auto demolition derby, auto shows, vintage world war II air-show, and college football and basketball. If there is a demand, we will edit the footage, and create DVD's for sale... Just let us know! We'll be happy to produce final DVD products for them!

Check out our web site at http://www.the3dguys.com!

I hope you enjoy....
Joe

Hey 3DGuys, try the OEM market too, like Asus or IArt3D or VRStandard. Maybe they could you a demo CD with some clips that you can sell for a flat fee, or even intrested in entire DVDs. Check them out, you don't have to focus directly on consumers only.

Have you 3dguys thought about selling mpegs directly? Being able to pay for it and download, instead of waiting for it in the mail is appealing. There was another website that does this but they sell 2d mpegs and a video player that fakes 3d by delaying a field during playback, really cheesy thing to do. Other then that I dont think there is any other sites out there that do that for money (I've seen some free ones), the majority of them are pictures and a few have slides.
