Yes, it works but you loose all colors (colors code depth).
You can try it with no glasses looking at an image chromadeph-coded blinding with your fingers the part of your eyes near your nose.
Nice but very limiting ...

I said you'll loose colors ... it's worse: you'll get wrong colors!
It may be funny or it can be used only for 3D data display.
