Stay away from 3001ad and Timmersion Head Mounted Display

www.3001ad.com
www.trimmersion.com

The product doesn't even exist!! They took my money 2 months ago on an order and never sent anything nor will they refund my money. I found out they only had a prototype for the E3 show and it didn't compare well to the z800

Not sure what to do.

What do you mean , they took your money ?- the website indicates they are accepting pre-orders only and clearly states they do not expect availability until the fourth quarter. Are you claiming they already charged your credit? Two months ago?
And what do you mean they refuse to refund your money?

I wouldn't buy until a reputable site or magazine reviews it. It could be a scam to sucker in money.

If they can really pull it off, this will be an awesome product. A wireless HMD with a tracker is just too cool!!

If it is wireless, the resolution will be too poor. I dont think is possible to send wireless video at decent resolution and framerate. Perhaps a 640 x 480 max.

Jorge, you're optimistic.. according to Tom's Hardware, it's 320x240, with 35" at 7ft virtual size, i.e. approx. 23 deg diagonal FOV..

Then is a dead product before born.
Is a two steps back technology, and not only in the resolution point.

And at that price....
I understand people complain about z800's real value at 900$, but this 500$ is just like burn them.

I hope "help" can get his money back, even if 3001ad says him they are going to ship this unit tomorrow.

I find it odd that Help claims the company charged his credit card when the site clearly states they are accepting pre-orders only , and would not be shipping for months after he placed his order.
I find it odd that after starting an incendiary thread like this , that he has not replied and clarified the events.
I am forwarding his post to the people at 3001AD , llc. and asking them to clarify.

3001ad is pretty much going out of business. There unit they showed at e3 was using Kopin displays and paled in comparison to the z800. The Trimmersion will never be released.

They had several units at E3, I tried one and it wasn't bad, it wasn't easy to put on, but it was comfortable once it was on (it didn't put all the weight on my forhead like other HMDs). The only down side I would say is the video quality wasn't great, I wish I could take the displays from z800 and put them in a 3001ad helmet.

3001ad is out of money. They haven't been paying their employees who obviously left. Their current management is very sketchy.

Company Management

Jimmy L. Barker, President and Marc Rifkin, Senior Account Executive.

Government Actions

On July 8, 1999, case 990078CD, the State of Indiana, Office of
the Secretary of State Securities Division filed a Finding of
Fact, Conclusions of Law and Final Order against Dibney
Corporation, 3001 AD Partners and Bill Ward, respondents.
Respondents are to permanently cease and desist from
transacting business in Indiana as broker-dealers and or
agents. Respondents shall pay a civil penalty of $30,000
payable within thirty days after entry of this order granting
all just and proper relief.

On September 7, 1999, case 990809, the Pennsylvania Securities
Commission issued a cease and desist order against respondents
Dibney Corporation, 3001 AD Partners, 3001 AD LLC, and Jimmy L.
Barker for violations of the Pennsylvania Securities Act of
1972, sections 102, 201, 301, and 606(c). Respondents are
ordered to cease and desist from offering or selling the
Partnership Interests and Memberships in the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania.

Just a guess, but there's still 358,000 people without power in Palm Beach County, FL. And if you follow a tracert to their websites, it looks like they're hosted at the end of a BellSouth DSL or T1 line (currently fading into the ether of Miami), probably along with their VOIP. Before you put the (inevitable) last nail in their coffins, let's wait till the lights come back on.

If it were a phone outage you would just get ringing and no answer not a "this number has been disconnected or no longer is in service" message. BTW, they have a Raleigh, North Carolina office for 3001AD and BetaZone and that number mysteriously is no longer in service as well. Me thinks they took the loot, the PC's and pencils and ran, could be wrong but it sure does smell that way.

KuDawg just ignore Armand Bastien (the z800 basher). He has a social problem apparantly and he is not allowed to resell their product so this is what he does. Quite sad actually.

The only person I know who would bring me into this fight is Stewart at Cyberworld. Stewart you are an ass. I have nothing to do with this. Oh and for your information we are an Authorized Disributor of the Z800. Call E-Magin yourself and ask.

Jaco talked about liking the spec's. I don't see why anyone would buy something else other then the Z800. This is IF your looking to buy an HMD, there's nothing that offers the FOV with tracking in the price range! Yeah $499 is an OK price but with a 30fov and 640x480x3 why would you think saving $400 would make that any better? I don't think I would want to play any Console system on an HMD right now. IF the trim glasses come out hopefully they do well for them. Were gonna have to wait another 5 years I'd say before we can see something worth it, and in our price range. I used to be a serious gamer but now it seems that the pasion is gone alittle bit, I haven't even fired up the glasses in awhile just because It's not awesome or really differant. I need something that is WOW!! What really gets me angry is the stupid short cables emagine sent with these glasses. Come on, I have to velcro the box to the side of my Case, just kiddin but its close. Hopefully in the 5 years to come someone makes an HMD wireless... Totally, but then it will be 1024x768 and people will be unhappy because now they are used to 2400x1600. Ok im tired, I'll post in 5 years !! LOL

I played an xbox 360 today.. that's a console I'd want to use an HMD with.

It's always nice to find a link that googles "stay away from Trimersion and 3001 AD". No trial, no rebuttal just BAM! If you have an issue with Trimersion and 3001 AD, the best thing to do is to email us. You can reach me at bobl@3001ad.com for any concerns/questions.

In the thread I know it is taking longer to get this product out than we would like. I want to make it right. As far as experience, I can tell you I've been building displays and VR systems since 1992. I know that when you get your hands on a Trimerison you will be impressed. If you want to try one now, please come to Delray Beach, FL and I will personally do a demo for you. We will be on the market as soon as possible and the specs/compatibility/issues will be worked out. It will be one of the most unique and impressive game accessories you've ever played with.

Bob,

You need to put some sort of specs, preliminary or not, on your webpage so that we know what kind of device you have. I'm a strong believer in the type of FPS device your marketing but your webpage is mostly marketing hype.

"The new units have been completely redesigned from scratch."
Does that mean it's finally stereo 3D? It does have two displays, right?
What about resolution? 640x480 is minimum I'd say.
Is it Wii compatible already?
Can there be a cheaper non-wired version and without gun?

I just ordered the headset from their website, and haven't received a receipt or anything in email. I've sent a few emails and haven't heard anything. I am currently deployed to southeast asia and my roommate hasn't seen any package come in either. I hope its not a scam, if its not i'll repost on here. I am looking forward to coming home from this deployment to play w/my new toy.

Its been nearly three weeks. I received one reply, from Bob Ladroch. They did charge my credit card and it says its availalbe on their website. He said he would have it out two weeks ago within a week. I didn't receive anything. I sent another email two days ago, and I haven't received a notification of shipment or anything else. They charged my credit card $611.65 for the headset. I'm currently deployed now, and my roommate says that nothing is showing up in the mail. I've sent multiple emails since and no response. If I don't get a response soon, i'm filing complaints with every government organization as I can, and put all the facts about this on this messageboard.

Thanks,

Brian

I just got it in the mail! I guess they were swamped with orders or something or under new management, but after a few emails it showed up. I had to drive to Sacramento to pick it up. Mr Ladroch was so cool about it he actually sent me two units for the price of one. It is a pretty fun toy indeed. The headtracker works well, i think VR still has a long way to go to catch up w/ the Lawnmower Man and other movies though. Until games are written to match specific VR Hardware it will always be kind of a pain configuring for games. For example in First Person Shooters, you aim your gun with your head. If games were written to incorporate the headtracking for looking, and a tracker built into a gun to work independantly from that for aiming, it would make that a little more immersive and easier to play. The Trimersion gun is more of a controller, of which you can make adjustments with the control sticks for aiming, although it can be kind of difficult sometimes. Don't expect to beat Halo or any FPS on the Hard setting, response time is way faster with a controller, but try an easy setting and just have fun with it.

Trimersion certainly did a good job with their product and it is really fun and an interesting experience. Once the game developers and the hardware developers merge their two technologies, this is going to change gaming forever. I forsee Nintendo doing this because they've already started some sort of motion tracking with the Nintendo Wii. I'm funna post some videos on youtube of me and my friends with it, its hilarious! I still haven't tried the headset with the PC yet, but i'll post my experience with it on here. You have to have TV out on your video card to do this. If you want to spend the 600 bucks and have a few kicks with you and your friends i would say go for it. It is a good fun product and the technology is certainly getting there.
