Hey guys,

When will we see a stereoscopic projector which has the following specs:

1 chip DLP
1280 x 1024 = play DVD movies in 3D upto 800 x 600
= play console games in 2D or 3D or
whatever is possible.
= play PC games in stereo 3D at 1280 x
1024
= watch HD DVD in 2D or 3D at 1280 x
720p in 2D or 3D or whatever is
possible

All of the above with up to 140hz refresh rate

using page flip, over and under,

with shutter glasses, wired and wireless, and anaglyph glasses red and blue, red and green glasses. Then all you need to watch the movies are a dvd player and progressive scan dvd player if needed. Or your laptop or PC.

When will something like that be released for under $3500, will we see anything like that soon?

Is there anything that is being made at the moment that we will see possibly in the future?

The first question should be when 1-chip DLP SXGA projectors become available in numbers at all. I know it's in the pipeline and there may be some products in limited distribution, like the Christie 1-chip SXGA back-projection module, but...

The cheapest SXGA DLP I could find on projectorcentral.com comes for over 40,000 $ and is a 3-chip model.

The processing power within the DLP-unit to make a 1-chip DLP with SXGA stereo-compliant will be enourmous.

If TI should it one day, they will most likely do only 120 Hz, not 140 Hz. And they won't support over-under. Progressive scan DVD-player won't work for stereo. Anaglyph will always work.

Anyway, ask again in 3 years or so.

The brand new Sim2 EVSX1 has a 1-chip DLP with 1400x1050 for under 9000$ !

Hi thanks for the info,

The reason i ask about the above is because i have read a bit about the DepthQ 3D Video Projector. Which costs $3500 and it's 1 chip 800x600. So as you can see it got me interested in those above specs that i mentioned. I took a look at the Sim2 EVSX1 on projector central and there is no mention of it being a 3D projector like the DepthQ.

Do you know much about the DepthQ, and do you know anything similar to it that has higher resolution?

The infocus DepthQ 3D Video Processor is using a DLP 800 x 600 1 chip from Texas Instruments. I thought they should be able to bump up the resolution to 1280 x 1024. I don't see how we will have to wait till three years time to see my specs. As depending on how well the DepthQ sells this year we should see a higher resolution next year shouldn't we with a little higher price of perhaps $5000.

dvbunny1: Another question is,do you need such a device ? I had made in last two weeks a demo of InFocus DepthQ to several people. All of them agree 800x600 at 120 Hz is good enought for games and current video (witch is half PAL/NTSC anyway) as well as for basic CAD and architectonic visualisations.

I belive (my quess, I realy do not have official information) 1024x768 one chip DLP could be available during 2-3 years. The quess is based on the time witch was neccesary for the InFocus DepthQ development and putting to production. So you can try to extrapolate ...

I would be sold on 1024x768 for $3500. And although I have nothing but praises for the DepthQ team, I'm puzzled the project didn't aim for 1024x768 and/or base the project around the InFocus X3.

Of course 1280x720 is the resoltion I would be 110% happy with and would never care for more. But since the InFocus Home Screenplay 7205 costs $5000 already (http://www.projectorcentral.com/InFocus_Home-ScreenPlay_7205.htm) I'm guessing I'll have to wait a while for things to get cheaper :) .

save your money......there will be high res multi-view 3d autostereoscopic 27-42 inch LCD displays under $3000 by late 2005 early 2006 plus amazing easy to use software to run them in the package,things will start to move fast in our 3d world when these affordable glasses free displays are marketed

Anonymous: are you joking ? Do you know that to reach at least DepthQ resolution (800x600 per eye), the aoutostersocopic monitor must be derived at least from 2500x2000 LCD base display ?
Does anybody belive such a tecnology will be availabe during 1 year in price acceptable range ?

Do you know that the grapghic card power must be in addtion extended by a factor of 10x to be able to generate the output for the autosteroscopic monitor + creat the neccesary pattern ? Anybody belive gamers will accept slow down by a factor of 10 in copmarioson to normal game speed ? Do you need references to my article at SD&A conference proving this by latest nVidia card benchmarking ?

Multichannel autostereo displays have a very low effective resolution, you have to stand away several meters, so the effective FOV is small.
The number of users is limited and you have find and keep a sweet spot.

How can a multichannel software be easier to use than a 2-channel software? Multichannel is slow and there is virtually no native content.

This is a different market than the DepthQ. The multichannel displays are great for exhibitions, fairs, advertising.

Just ask me! .. Its no easy task for autoStereo displays at the moment. MH is right, creating multiview content is a nightmare. (at the moment)
However that is to change... cant say much at this point, but its going to change soon.(2view stereo to 8 or 9 view stereo conversion)

The other issues still stand of finding a sweetspot in the multi-viewing-zones, and the resolution of the displays itself, try reading 12 point size font on autostereo displays

Definately not in this year or the next imo.
Meanwhile bigscreen autostereo is on its way

Multiview technology is not necessary for watching 3D photos, videos and playing game -- two views are enough. More than two views are interesting for some scientific visualisations only.

Many people (and maybe even some manufacturers) believe that multiview displays werde designed to solve the problems with dual view displays (e.g. limited viewing angle). That's wrong, because it would be a workaround which creates more problems than it solves. My opinion: There is no future for multiview displays in the mass market because content creation is too difficult and quality too low.

ok, comming and soon new very high res flat panal technology. 42 inches and more as low as $400. its called carbon nanotube flat panel direct growth on glass displays. very bright and high res and very,very cheap. production to start as early as 2006
