Dear Anonymous,

Has it occured to you that the availability of this DVD might have been posted elsewhere at a previous time, there by enabling certain lucky souls living in that parallel stereo-universe
to order and receive it before you were aware of it's existence?

Hi, my name is Philip Steinman and I am a past president of the Stereo Club of Southern California (2002-4). I'm proud to say that I approved the mass expenditures (telecine of film is not cheap!) at our board meetings necessary to launch this DVD project which is a wonderful compilation of many 3D formats spanning projects from 4 decades. The 3D DVD captures the history of our club, a multitude of 3D formats over the years, and some very entertaining short movies. Check it out!

The SCSC 3-D DVD contains clips from the following 3-D movies and videos:

SCSC 3-D Olypmpics -- Bill Shepard Nature Trail -- Owen Western Weekend Panorama -- Ray Hannisian Hot Air Ballooning in the Colorado Rockies -- Ray Hannisian Travels in Guatemala -- VRex Concerto in 3-D -- Oliver Dean An Afternoon of Culture at the Dorothy Chandler -- Ray Zone Main Street Electrical Parade -- Al Razutis Meditations --Al Razutis Nagual -- Al Razutis Virtual Flesh -- Al Razutis Statues -- Larry Ashley Skate 3-D -- Stereomedia Productions New Dimensions in Transportation -- Ray Hannisian A Night at the Opera -- Ray Hannisian Utah’s Canyon Lands, Baja Peninsula -- VRex Robo Jones -- Ron Labbe A Better Mousetrap -- VRex Elysium -- Don Radovich Terror in the Archives -- VRex V-Rex Promo Reel -- VRex Space Rescue -- VRex Wreck of the Rhone -- i-Art Corp. Fairy Tale -- Aaron Ross Cruise the Circuit -- Ray Hannisian A Virtual Visit to New York -- Tom Riederer Ocean Adventure -- Harold Baize Burning Man 3-D: A Burning Question -- Peter G. Hanson Make Your Mark

Plus the following bonus material:

John Hart Getting into 3-D Movies -- Alan Williams The Bolex Stereo 16mm -- Larry Brown The Elgeet Stereo 16mm -- Scott Stephen Direct Anaglyph -- David Starkman & Susan Pinsky The Formation of the SCSC Movie Division -- Owen Western Over/Under Elmo Super 8mm -- Bill Shepard The Powell Unit for Over/Under Super 8mm -- Oliver Dean Consumer 3-D Video -- Ray Zone The 3-D Oeuvre

73 minutes running time, Color, NTSC, 4:3, 3-D Field Sequential, English

I've also viewed the SCSC DVD, and it really is a "must-have" disc for all serious 3-D video buffs. There's a lot of great history on this disc, as well as a wide variety of 3-D shorts, all preserved in the field-sequential 3-D format.

Next time don't type with dashes, equal signs and underline spacers. They are not necessary.

As for the DVD, I got mine yesterday and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The best footage, in my opinion, is the "Wreck on the Rhone", though it's just the short version. I would have liked to see the whole thing. Both of Ray Hannisian's film excerpts: Hot Air Ballooning in the Colorado Rockies & Travels in Guatemala, need color correcting. Doesn't hurt the dimensional depth, but the picture quality isn't as good because of it. Don Radovich's "Terror in the Archives" is worthy of Mystery Science Theater 3000 due to its really bad B-movie acting, budget and acting. Owen Western's "Weekend Panorama" is another excellent 3D film on the DVD. Great depth and feeling of being there.

Philip, question for you. At the end of "3D Olympics", the credits mention that the commentator was a well-known comedic talent. Would that be Dr. Demento? Sure sounded like him. Also, one of the guys in the film dressed like Demento as well.

"Anonymous" with all the dashes and equal signs won't be around to read your advice. That message is obviously spam, probably sent out in a batch to hundreds of forums that don't require registration. Some idiots don't seem to have anything better to do with their time.

someone said:

"I bought that DVD. It is boring and basically sucks."

WOW. That's the first time I've heard anyone complain about the DVD. Sorry it wasn't your cup of tea.

My name is Sean Isroelit and I'm the current president of the Stereo Club of Southern California. Under the direction of the Movie Division chairman, John Hart, I put the content together for the DVD and designed the menus, titles, and animations as well as supervising the transfers from Dual 8mm, super 8mm and 16mm film. I think that this DVD has incredible value with 80 minutes of non-stop 3D entertainment!

The first 40 minutes of the DVD features of a series of vignettes introducing the audience to the kinds of 3D movie making technologies available for the amateur film maker and enthusiast. Including some unique "One-Off" camera and projection rigs. Many cameras are shown with complementary clips - including my favorite short film "Nature Trail to Hell".

The second 40 minutes is a recap of the SCSC Movie Division's three international 3D movie/video competitions. Short clips, many which have never been seen by the public, offer a glimpse into the diverse filmscape of the 3D moviemaker. These clips are kept to a succulent sampler size to keep the viewer enthralled. Short of joining the Stereo Club of Southern California, it's the best way to see the very best in non-theatrical 3D movies and videos. There has never before been a more robust compilation of 3D clips available in one professionally pressed DVD.

I couldn't disagree more. I knew full well what the DVD contained before I ever picked it up.

Sean's description hits the nail on the head. And yes, the disc IS a great compilation of non-theatrical 3-D movies and shorts, as well as showcasing a wide gamut of amateur stereo rigs used over the years. Remember, the disc is a compilation.. not "a low budget movie". It easily meets and exceeds the goals it set forth to accomplish.

Yes!

PS: "Nature Trail to Hell" is my favourite, too (although it was shot in Super 8 and image quality is quite low, but you can't blame the DVD for low resolution of the Super 8 system).
