Cymouse is a better version of the TrackIR. More degrees of freedom.

Ok, the Cymouse is a complete DOF head tracker for only $80. LCD shutter glasses can be had for $50. Many people already have a fairly large CRT monitors and good video cards.

So, why am I having such a hard time putting together a cheap "desktop VR" or "Fishtank VR" system?

The hardware is cheap... but no software to put it all together. Even companies which sell both trackers and shutter glasses don't offer a package that allow you to experience VR.
