Hi all,
Can't wait and got it. After several
frustrated hours I still can't get any
D3D game running stereoscopically. In the
process I had to remove the G400, and both
Voodoo2 SLI and reinstall the V7700 deluxe
drivers more than couple times. Finally
I gave up trying to get the games going
and plug the camcorder in (Nu-View enhanced)
and found great comfort in no flicker stereoscopic
footages.

I would appreciate any tips on getting
this thing running for D3D games since I've got
some new ones waiting... Once that gets going
I can put my Voodoo2 SLI (by Wicked3d) back in
for my GPL and WW2 at override hi-res. Or so I hope.

It should just work.

What is your software configuration?
Windows version?
DirectX version?
ASUS driver version?
Which ASUS-VR options have you tried?
What happens in the games? No stereo? No OSD? Crash? Black screen?

BTW I wouldn't fool around with ASUS driver plus Voodoo driver plus Wicked3D wrapper. In theory it could work, but in practice it's too much of a hassle.

Thanks for your reply.
After reading your message I realized the driver
shipped was an old one (5.33) so I downloaded 5.16. Much better. D3D games started to show
stereoscopic effects. But still lots of lockups so finally I bit the bullet and reformat/reinstall win98 SE. At this point all D3D games behave in a predictable way and fewer lockups which I think are something else and not related to the Asus V7700...

Regarding games, there are some questions I hope
you can help me with. Fisrt, Grand Prix 3: The stereoscopic effects are there but all the cars but mine have their tires running separately about
1 inch (distance on screen) on top of the cars which run with bare axes. Hilarious scene. I've tried to adjust the OSD parameters but that didn't help. I'm thinking except mines, the tires on all other cars are not 3d objects but not certain. Second, Jane's USAF: Once entering the menu to setup options, other games show depth but this USAF does _not_ and when selected to "fly", it either goes black or remain at the menu screen but the sounds indicate that the computer has entered the simulation/game. Cursor is still controllable and I was able to get out of the game. I've tried USAF in normal mode (no stereoscopic) and it works fine. Third game, Enemy Engaged: Comanche vs Hokum: once gotten into the menu, the cursor
leaves trails and half of the screen doesnt change making half of the next screen invisible and so I can't select anything except the "exit"
button which I know its location in the lower left corner. Again this game works in normal mode.
Thanks for your help,

Yes, I have same problem with GP3. I think this is something at Microprose as I had exact same problem with wheels and much more with Spirit of Speed (a stinker of a game). GP3 uses sprites until the cars get close enough and then it changes over to 3D vehicles. I suspect this has something to do with it. Since every other game works great, including F1 2000, best to pass this one by for stereo.

Paul, you are probably right on the sprites thing.
I've returned GP3 yesterday due to this non-3D
artifacts.

On a different note, I've found last night that
Flanker 2.0 exhibits the same problem as Comanche vs Hohum: in normal 3D it's fine but once stereoscopic is enabled the loading screen shrinks down to about 1/4 of the screen high(but remains the same screen width),the other 3/4 of the screen becomes inactive covering the menu display making selecting buttons impossible. Pretty much by random clicking my mouse buttons, it entered the game and for that narrow strip of screen it does show stereoscopic effect. That make two simulations/games developed in Europe (Enemy Engage:C vs H and Flanker 2.0) non compatible with the V7700 that I just bought. I'd be interested in how other gamers work around this problem of menu screen failure in stereoscopic mode.

Finally found the problem. Driver.
The one that comes with Asus is rev. 5.33
but on their web is not listed as a driver
for the V7700 so at the beginning when
encountering the problem I switched to the
older one rev. 5.16 which works for most games
except the 3 mentioned on previous posts. F2,
EECH, and USAF. Since then I've gone thru
trying Eyescream wrapper + Detonator 6.31 + H3D
glasses on the V7700. This combo works on the
two games that I tried: EECH and USAF.
Great I thought, it follows then that the
"menu screen" problem is not a problem with
the games, it must be the driver from Asus,
(that's what my ignorant brain thought anyway).
At the same time I appreciated the page
flipping quality much more than that of the
sync doubler from Wicked3d. So that was an
easy choice. I had to re-tried the 5.33 driver
that comes with my V7700. So
I uninstalled my trusting Wicked3d wrapper,
retired the H3D glasses, and reinstalled the
Asus driver 5.33 and that did it for both
Flanker 2.0 and EECH. Beautiful.

But not USAF. Not in stereoscopic mode, it
didn't work. I've tried to disable stereo
prior to entering the game and invoked OSD
in game but the OSD did not even appear.
Bottom line is I got 2 out of 3 games
work under stereoscopic with the V7700
with 5.33 driver that comes with the V7700.
All other games behave well. So far.

I'm not sure but check that USAF isn't trying to share the OSD keys with its own keyboard mapping. If you haven't already, ensure that you are using the latest patch for USAF. I believe it dealt with a number of D3D issues.

On another note, GPL has an unsupported patch that fully supports D3D and it looks great in stereo. It was developed by a one of the programmers on the GPL team. You should be able to find it at Blackhole Motorsports.

I'm pretty sure I patched it to 1.02F I think.

I've tried the D3D patch for GPL and had
serious problem in menu screens. Texts are
a confusing mess that are on top of each other.
Most of the times I can't even got passed
these screens because of this. 1 out of 10
times I can get in the game and it would
work fine. I love GPL and really want
to get it going but man ...the menuscreen
problem is just too much.

Over the weekend I've download the 5.33a driver
from Asus web page. This driver solves the GPL
menuscreen problem and adds the dynamic on/off
stereo toggle in game. Somehow I feel the stereo
effects of this driver is _much_ better than
the 5.33 version in games like Combat Flight
Sim 2 and even in EECH which was phenomenal already. GPL is superb in stereo with 5.33a
driver and the D3D patch. USAF remains the only
elusive one. I hope this saga of mine will help
somebody with the V7700 deluxe.
