I'm currently using a bitsy Nvidia 64mb Geforce 4000 MX to view pageflipped DVD movies on my X1. The effect is astounding at 1024x768 @75Hz with no ghosting and minimal flicker. However, when I go to fullscreen mode to activate pageflipping mode, the video rate runs a bit choppy but sound playback is flawless. This probelm occurs only in fullscreen mode. The video doesn't freeze but the framerate looks like it's dropped a significant amount. CPU usage is at 100%, I have a 1.98GHz processor, and all other DVD player programs I have operate normally. Even ripped DVDs act in the same manner. I've already contacted Mr. Wimmer and as always he was extremely helpful, however we have come to the conclusion it may just be a slow card. Any other thoughts before I upgrade to a new card? Thanks. | ||

It may be that you need a video card upgrade. So the normal 3d effect when doing the nvidia test works with out becoming choppy etc. I know the stereoscopic player does extra stuff when converting interlaced movies into page flippable images. But I did not notice any frame drops when playing movies on my 900mhz athlon system. On that system I have a geforce 4 ti4200. Your video card may have to emulate something because of the conversion process, requiring more cpu usage. | ||

It may be worth noting, that I also notice a frame rate drop when vieing 3d material, but what I am noticing I think is an attribute of 3d video versus 2d video. Since with 3d video you are halvening the frame rate, givening half to one eye and the other half to the other. Even with interlaced video, what you are losing fields which are normally updated 60 times a second, are now changed to 30 times a second for each eye. | ||

If playback is just "a little bit" jerky, it might be a framerate conversion problem. You should always select a multiple of the video's frame rate as refresh rate. For PAL content (25 fps) this means 75 or 100 HZ, for NTSC content (30 fps) this means 60, 90 or 120 Hz. Since desktop and 3D fullscreen mode usually use different refresh rates, it is possible that 2D playback works fine and 3D not. | ||

I've lost the ability to sync the projector at 75Hz with the X1 (I don't know how I lost it and I pulled my hair out trying to get it back) but 60Hz works fine. More flicker than I'd like though but only noticable in bright daylight scenes. I was able to use the 'fullscreen unscaled' mode to avoid all cropping wich made my day and actually helped out the framerate by utilizing a smaller image but still does not play as smooth as I'd like to see. I know the DepthQ solves all these problems but I just can't afford it right now and I'd like to get as much usage from the X1 as possible. I'm buying a new graphics card this week to see if the problem can be remedied. Thanks for the pointers and suggestions and I'll post an update to those interested. | ||

Maybe the X1 syncs only at certain resolutions? You can try different ones in Stereoscopic Player in File->Settings->Playback. You should try 640 x 480, 800 x 600 and 1024 x 768. When 'Use Default' is checked, the player uses the desktop resolution. Another suggestion: Try a refresh rate below 75 Hz, e.g. 70 and 72 Hz. | ||
