I am looking for shutters in different sizes to do some experiments with cameras and stereo projectors. The shutter size should be up to 140 mm x 140 mm.
Does anyone knows from where I could get them? Does anyone could tell me where I can buy LC-shutters in general?

I read threads and articles here on this site last week. From the information in this site, the only source I know of is a electric welders sheild. Apparantly there are some shields that use an LCD glass to automatically block the light to a welders eyes instead of a physical plate which one has to manually close in order to block the light. If your aware of what a welders shield is you should know that the plates will be a good size.

Hope this helps... good luck.

What a great idea for LCD shutters!

The following UK website sells LCD Panels:

http://www.nederman.co.uk/helmet/helmettech.html

The specs look ideal for fast shuttering too!
Switching Time -
Light to Dark : 0.4 ms
Dark to Light :- 0.2 to 0.3 ms

Thanks for the input

Some times ago I had contact with a manufacturer for electric welders shields.
http://www.optrel.com

But the problem is that the shutters from welder shields are still to small for me. I am still looking for something a little bigger. Any more ideas?

Well... why don't you just contact an LCD shutter glass manufacturer directly?? I'm sure they could tell you what sizes they are readily available at, and if, or how much they would be as a custom order.

Oh... wait... silly me.

I was foolishly thinking that products we buy are made in our respective countries. They are probably made with cheap labour, cheap taxes, etc. overseas somewhere's where... oh never mind. I'm just frustrated with the world today. Good luck on your hunt.

I've been buying old LCD projection panels which were meant for use with overhead projectors, they might provide enough opacity for "Blocking" and enough switching speed?
