I'm looking for a cheap Non-Depolarizing screen for 2x projectors in stereo mode. Are there lots to choose from? I've seen white ones at theme parks, so it doesn't have to be silver? | ||

I'm looking too. I've only recently had success with the dual VGA stuff, but now it's time to buy a screen (and some glasses). Best potential source I've com across is stereoscopy.com. They sell non-depolarizing screens (Da-Lite Silver Pacer and Picture King) as well as polarizing glasses and polarizing filters. Still, being located in Denmark, I'd prefer to buy from a Europe based company. So if anyone knows of any, please let me know. How about you, Anonymous? Where are you from? From Scandinavia too, just about to fax http://www.stewartfilm.com that have their EuroHQ in Denmark. Maybe you can score a good deal being a native and all. Don't have a specific purpose other than viewing huge stereo stuff. IMAX 3D work with a white screen so silver is not always what's needed. Will post more links later. To get no de-polarization at all you can rear-project on a matt glass. I've seen it, it works fine. Giorgio. | ||

I've seen a rear projection using two DIA projectors. The two images were projected on a glass , something like the one you can see used in the window of a bathroom (you cannot see throght it). A clear glass shoul be used as well but you would be able to see the direct light from the projectors, and this is noy recommanded! Giorgio. | ||

This evening I've tested my LCD projector (SONY VPL-CS1, a cheap product). I've put a polarizer in front of it and I've rotated it. Well, I couldn't reduce the overall brightness but, while rotating the polarizer, I could see all colors turning from red to green to blue. That's way I think the projector shows an internal polarization but not a linear one, maybe a circular polarization. Anyway, using two polarizers and two projectors of this kind, I aspect the image would be damaged in the color-space achiving something worse than a single projector showing anaglyph data. You might be right. And then, simply rotating polarization (as I suggested in the Quadro hacking thread) might not work. Then one would need a depolarizing filter first, then a polarizing second in front of each projector. I'm not sure whether such a thing as a depolarizer exists. It might exist. And it might suck up a lot of light from the projector. Alex | ||

So most LCD projectors are out of question? DLP only? Giorgio, since you have the filters, can you go to a local store selling projectors and do the same experiment with some other models? Just note their names and tell us if they all suck... A couple of different LCD/DLP would be nice, I'm sure the sales people would be very helpful if you explain that you are looking for a new projector. | ||

The VPL-CS1 has 3 LCD panels (one for each color), so it looks like the panels have different polarization. Don't know, though, whether this is by design or just random. The latter would mean that odds are 2/8 to find such a projector with all 3 panels in same polarization (and 2/64 for a perfect stereo pair...) With a color notebook display, there seems to be no such problem - testing with some cardboard polarizer 'glasses', I got one eye full color and the other pitch black. | ||

Every local store for sunshadearticles has big silverscreens in stock. The outside of the screen is a kind of textile in color, the inside however is a silverscreen useful for stereoprojection. |
