I use a NUVIEW 3d adapter in conjunction with a new JVC gr-dv1800 videocamera.
I like what I get but I'd like more professional results.
What a camera or adapter should be my next step?
An VREX camera?
Please, help me.
I do not know where I should look for much better 3d shootings.

Thanks.

I think the Canon XL1 with Canon's stereoscopic adapter might be worth a try. It's been discussed earlier:
http://www.stereo3d.com/discus/messages/24/557.html?

I haven't yet seen actual footage from the camera/adapter combo, but to me it sounds a very promising semi-professional solution.

I'm not sure how anyone can call an $8,000 lens attached to a $4,000 videocamera "semi-professional."

The $8000 3-D adaptor is made for a videocamera
priced under $5000.

"High end" broadcast and industrial videocameras
can go for $30,000 easy and are 'as good as it
gets', ie: Professional. But note that Prosumer
Semi-professional cameras are good (damn good
in the case of the XL-1) but are still not
considered "professional" videocameras... unless
you're shooting a wedding or small industrial
project. (IMO: This is from a broadcast or $$ commercial standpoint)

I think that 2 cameras and home made parallel
montage with adjustable intercamera distance is a better solution ... Precise sync of the two
obtained avi files could be done in post procesing
(or solved by some more advanced way of camera simultanous star and stop - e.g. by IR controler).

I have got several sample from such equipment and it looks realy good ...

Got any more info on using 2 standard cameras? Like how to post process, how good the sync is when cams do 25fps if one cam is not fully in sync with the other (maybe 0,5 fps before the other), personal experiences, zoom, tripod, shooting near or far with what intercam distance and some other stuff I forgot...

If you think about it,not to much 3d video is perecly synced.Even the most professional way of syncing video with two cameras is 1/60th of a second off becouse of using two different fields for each eye.you would have to record both streams of video seperately preferably as progressive scan or you could end up with blurred post production.or you could come up with a way of playing back both streams with both regular fields.the XL1+3dlens will have 1/60th second delay as well because it records like the new view only with progressive scan.that is,one eye, then the other eye.I have thout about recording progressive scan with both eyes at the exact same time but playback will be choppy at 30 frames per second each eye.the ultimate 3d in my opinion is 60 frames per second each eye progressive scan at the exact same time. The only way I presently know to do this is stick two XL1's side by side but the DING DANG things arent slim enuff to go into normal stereo much less hyporstereo (less separation between eyes).Hey! What about a progressive scan video camera and a beam splitter! This might even solve some problems in post production.

A beam splitter would certainly make things a lot easier. Unfortunately, almost all beam splitters make two narrow side-by-side images. This isn't vary suitable for video, especially as we're going towards wider screens (at least in the TV area).

I've read about a beam splitter called Tri-Delta, splitting the image into above-below. This might be ideal for shooting stereo movies, as it would produce two wide cinema-like pictures. Afair it went out of production decades ago. It's been discussed at:

Hmmm...what about using 2 canon elura2s. I believe they shoot in progressive scan mode are can be made to fit side by side. Then use that 3D combine software to make the analglyph or stereoscopic video

It should work. Main problem is synchronizing zoom, start and stop. It would probably need considerable processing and editing, but potentially, it could give great quality.

I've controlled two Eluras (called MV3i in Europe) simultaneously with the remote (but I haven't actually mounted the two camcorders and filmed stereo with them yet). It works, but it would be nice to use the LANC interface for it.

There has been some discussion of this on
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/photo-3d/
and
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/3dtv/
...but I don't think there's a really good solution yet.

What do you think about Bluethoot technology for remote control?
Do you think it may give access to 2 different cameras on the same PC?
Giorgio.

Giorgio,

Do you mean Bluetooth for control (like the remote)? I've never heard of this, but I imagine that if it's available, it will only control one camera at the time. Same problem with the LANC, it the camera's identity and gets sort of confused (in lack of a better term). Infrared remotes, by contrast, just sends the signal and whatever camera that recieves it reacts upon it.

Alex, of course I do...
:-)
Bluetooth tech should enable a sort of communication among all Bluetooth-compatible device within about 10 mts.
I aspect same drivers' troubles but Bluetooth-sellers don't speak about them; they only say that all Bluetooth's devices will "see" each others.
I imagine a notebook in my car (or bag) recording on its HD 2 video streams while I'm going around shooting with two cameras ... no wires at all.
Giorgio.

Anyway I've checked available bandwidth.
If anyone can find the time to do this:

But, er, these cameras don't exist, do they? Though I must admit it would be convenient the way you illustrate it.

As I understand, now you're talking about transmitting the video stream via bluetooth - and not just for controlling the cameras. I believe that the bandwidth of Bluetooth is just below 1000 Mbps, so it should be possible.

But for the future, I'd rather set my hopes on Canon's 3d adapter for the XL1 to drop to one thenth of its price.

The best guide I've found for 3D moviemaking is Lenny Lipton's FOUNDATIONS OF THE STEREOSCOPIC CINEMA (Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1982). While it is obviously dated as far as video, its advice on optics and allowable asymmetries in photography and projection are well researched and informative. According to Mr. Lipton, speaking of film photography and projection, "It is possible to demonstrate experimentally that synchronization between the left and right image, for average subject motion, must be held to within 100 degrees out of the 360 degrees of a single intermittant cycle for projection, and to far lower values for the photography itself."

Trusting his research, this would allow for some, yet miniscule, temporal variation in the pictures taken. In camera design, he also cites the need for variable interaxial distance between the cameras and even during one shot.

Whether or not this quote is helpful to anyone in video, this book explains in detail many of the factors to be considered in 3D moviemaking, and I highly recommend it.

Has anyone tried the 3DTV spacebar camera mount and how do they synchronize their cameras?

-Robert

Alex, I can buy a Sony Blutooth camera in the store right here in Italy.
I'm sure you can buy it too.
I don't remember the name but it's an 800.000 pixels product for about 2000 euro.
Giorgio.
