I have read here that a 3 tube CRT projector will display the correct signal from the PC to project the 3d image. My question is what imput must be used for this. I can get a Sony 722QM which has RGB imput but most CRTs that I have found on the net do not have 15pin VGA output. If the VGA output is run to the RGB does that convert the signal and break the 3d image? I know little about the process sorry. Thanks for any responces. Brett | ||

VGA -> RGB shuld be O.K. when the device does not do some internal redigitalization. Do not use porjector with S-VHS or composite video input, it will not work. You will get another problem - standard CRT projectors do have slow green phosphors and you will get ghosting for this color. I can say only one thing: try it before you buy it | ||

Actually, the only difference between VGA and RGB cables is the connectors and cables themselves, not the signals running through them. A VGA cable has separate red, green, blue, horisontal and vertical sync - but integrated in one cable. You can buy an adapter cable with a VGA connector that splits into five BNC connectores for the above mentioned signals. That would work just fine. You have to find out if your projector uses composite sync, horisontal and vertical sync or sync on green. As far as I know, most graphics cards deliver horisontal and vertical sync. But if your projector doesn't accept this signal, you'll probably be able to build a sync converter quite easily. Michal is right about the slow green phosphor. I've got a BarcoGraphics 808 with the usual slow green phosphor (you can buy fast tubes, but they're expensive). And yes, there is some ghosting, but it still looks great. He's also right about the "try before you buy" thing. Not all projectors can run 100 or 120 hz in a satisfactory resolution. My own projector is unable to run without a RGB to VGA interface box between it and the PC. And such a box isn't cheap. Beats me why it needs this box, btw. Still, other CRT projectors run fine without an interface box. Guess you'll just have to give it a try. Good luck! Alex | ||

Thanks for the info, Ill let you know how I go, I have a GeForce 2 MX so the Projector using horisontal and vertical sync should be no problem then. However I didn't even think about the vertical refresh rate. The Specs on Projectors dont seem to indicate the Vertical refresh rate. I'll just have to as you say, Try before I buy.
