Hi there is there any one who can say which one of these is best for stereoscopy, Side-By-Side or Over-Under  | ||

It depends, I guess, on what you want. Side-by-side is the most common format, but over-under can give you larger photos in printed books since the physical format matches better. When I think of it, this is in fact true for monitors also. There are different viewing aids available for both formats, in any price-range and quality-range, so it is hard to pick a "winner"  | ||

above/below video works with both Stereoscopic Player AND Tri-Def media player. Tri-Def will NOT play side-by-side. Also, I have noticed that side-by-side video tends to have playback problems on slower computers, while above/below seems to run more smoothly. (Message edited by rrrrob on January 12, 2010) | ||

Hi there is there any way of converting side by side videos(mpg-1) to over under videos of same quality and in same format. | ||

Conversion is easy. You could use Avisyth, Premiere, After Effects, Vegas or many other video editing/processing programs. Maintaining quality is problematic, as you're forced to re-encode the MPG, so there will be some modest loss in quality. If you compare apples to apples, i.e. left and right images that are of the same resolution, there's really no difference between the quality of side-by-side vs. over-under. I don't think processor power is a big issue. I regularly play side-by-side and over-under with each stream being 720p on an Intel Atom based computer. Your choice of video codec is the biggest factor in processor usage, with H.264 requiring lots and lots of processor power and MPEG-1 requiring very little (although a fast disk may be needed because of the higher bit rate.)
