Could someone please explain to me what open gl quad buffered stereo actually is.

I am evaluating 3 graphics cards for stereo rendering; NVIDIA Quadro 4 980, 3dlabs wildcat vp880 pro and ATI Fire GL V3200.

I understand that the Quadro can use open gl Quad buffered stereo or the consumer stereo for games and stuff. What actually is the difference.

I can't find much information about the type of stereo for the wildcat or the fire gl. Do these use open GL quad buffered stereo as well. Is there a similar consumer driver for games with these cards?

Thanks for your help

Diferences:

1) Under the Pro OpenGL stereo mode the application can create in-window stereo output (as well as full screen) and it has full control related to the stereo camera positons as well as several other related parameters).

2) The consumer drivers support only fullscreen exclusive mode (exclusive = no other window visible). The position of the stereo cameras are calculated by nVidia driver, not by the applciation.

In princliple this methods are different ...
Samples of the Pro mode usage are on this link:

Sample OpenGL code using latest nVidia consumer drivers is on this link:
