Elsewhere i saw mention of a website that sells kits to increase the immersion of games. After seeing their method i decided to try it myself.

You place a large fresnel lens 3 to 5 inches in front of the monitor. The center of the lens has to be aligned with the center of the screen. The smooth side of the lens faces you. You place your nose up against the lens while viewing.

I can say truthfully that the view takes up your entire FOV. Ceilings pass over your head and the walls pass on your left and right in doom3 and halflife 2. In Farcry the trees pass overhead. The effect is quite stunning. I believe it's the cheapest and most immersive method available. You can also increase the effect using shutterglasses with it.

You can purchase the lenses at www.3dlens.com

You want to purchase the large rigid acrylic version. I'm using a 15" monitor and a lens larger than the screen. It works best in a completely dark room to reduce stray light glare.
