Hi,
I just got home a Sony Projector (SVGA VPL-ES1).
it's an Lcd projector and can do 85hz on the Vga Port.

well after trudging so so many posts on the board here, I didnt even think stereo would work on an lcd projector.
- So on a whim, an hour ago I connected my e-dim glasses to my pc (with Nvideo Gforce ti-4600) card.
and opened the stereo properties panel in windows.
did a quick run fo the built in Nvidia test app and guess what
:) it works... beautifully, Not sexily, but just vanill beautiful.

I reduced ghosting by limiting parallax to around 10% in the nvidia controls and synced at 800x600 res @ 60hz.

the display started stuttering at higer than 60hz sync.

Well I guess most of the posts on this board on lcd projectrs are around the year 2002-2003. i suggest people try some newer lc projectors.

Yes there is flicker as expected, but gamma and parallax controls on Nvidia cars offer some degree of relief. and yes darkening your room will help a lot!
-Important- you do need an Nvidia card for as far as i know, for smooth pageflipping.
The on-board intel chip couldnt do page flipping.

------------------------------------------------
Now my questions:
1) whats the Hype about Sensio? how come they can manage to sell an expensive box just to convert over/under video to pageflipped 3d, and not care about flicker issues etc?
(Im assuming there is heavy flicker since they say it connects to any home theatre projector, mostly everything will be syncing at 60 hz right??

2) What is happening when i try to increase the sync frequency of teh projector connected to the PC to anything above 60hz? I mean is there a limitation that the projector is exhibiting in the ability to display images fast enough? I say this because the images "stutter" at freq like 75 or 85 and thus the normal e-dim glasses wont sync.
(im referring to my lcd projector here)

3) Are there any cost effective DLP projectors out there for active stereo?
I mean DLPs that can go upto 120hz?
and if so will the e-dim glasses then work flawlessly without losing sync?

Regards
Clyde

Hi,

Most projectors work at a fixed internal frequency, usually 60 Hz, better projectors also support 50 Hz (for PAL content). Higher frequencies are converted to the internal frequency by dropping frames.

If your graphics card output frequency matches the projectors internal frequency, shutterglasses will work. By the way, LCD panels used in projectors switch much faster than LCD panels in flat displays (because they are smaller), therefore don't cause excessive ghosting.

The Sensio is a hardware side-by-side to pageflipping converter. It's advantage is that it works without a computer. A computer, however, is much more flexible: it allows to play any stereo format, not only NTSC DVDs in side-by-side format.

Although the Sensio processor is quite useless, we benefit from Sensio: They produced DVDs which are not yet available in interlaced format, for example Spy Kids 3D and IMAX Bugs 3D. I just ordered some Sensio DVDs (although I don't have a Sensio processor) to watch it on the computer...

Hi Guys,
I have been carrying out further tests with my Sony LCD projector.
(thankyou Peter for clarifying that for me)

I wish one of you can answer my problem:

When I set resolution to 800x600 @ 60hz and run the Nvidia test application (the one with the zooming in and out nvidia logo) all works fine and is in perfect sync with the glasses. (e-dim glasses)

But when I run software like stereoscopic player to paly back DvD's like haunted castle (input line sequential output Nvidia )
I get about 5 to 10 seconds of perfect 3D, but then the picture starts "stuttering" and as a result the 3d starts "jumping".
What could be the reson for this? is it because these dvd's are NTSC and Im in Pal land? (Dubai UAE)
Could this be a reason for the stuttering of video?

As I said the test application of nvidia and even 3d games are working fine at 60hz.

Thanks all.
Clyde

P>S.
My main question about Sensio is:
Is the unit still connecting to a 60hz standard lcd or dlp Home theatre projector?
In that case there IS ghosting right?

And people are comfortable with such a solution for 3D Home Theatres?

Clyde If you get DVD Decrypter from
doom9.org and rip haunted castle to
your hard drive then play it from
the hard drive using Stereoscopic Player
you might be lucky and stop the stutters.

Ripping the dvd to hard drive will help a lot
also try in Nvidia settings switch off clone
mode and perhaps changing to 16 bit color
mode as this can make the Nvidia stereo more
stable in Stereoscopic player I find.

Hi Michal,

I've also ordered at cwonline: Bugs, Spy Kids and
Ultimate Gs (the last one to compare the image quality with the interlaced version).

Ok .. Im back on the Sensio trip.. I recently saw a demo at a tradefair, It was not "impressive" (though to fair they were in a makeshift setup and there was no tech person there).

I just visited the Sensio website, and their spec distinctly say you NEED a dvd player set to interlaced mode for 3d dvds.
Now why is that?? i was always under the impression that sensio dvds are sidebyside. unless they have included an interlace mode now?

So to summerize:

1) Does the Sensio flicker? since it says in their specs that it does only 71.928hz

2) if it DOES'NT flicker does it have a sync doubler?

3) Does it output in page flip or Interlace? considering the specs say it outputs only 640x480 @ 71.928hz

Can someone in the know please enlighten me?
Thanks
Clyde

Here's what I believe: The input must be interlaced because ther "box" simply can't handle progressive input signals. It does the deinterlacing itself. The output is pageflipped.

By the way, Stereoscopic Player can be used to watch Sensio DVDs on the PC in many different formats (anaglyph, shutterglasses, passive projection, ...): http://mitglied.lycos.de/stereo3d

Peter Sensio say it is mandatory to use a stand alone progressive dvd player with the sensio device.
Also the dvd player must have component video outputs to plug in to the sensio device.

Is this just a guess or did you actually see such a setup?

They'd have to re-release all their Sensio movies on HD-DVD or Bluray. Peter might be able to come up
with a HD Stereoscopic player if it happens I hope.
God knows what Sensio would charge for their device
probably could buy two depthQ projectors and still have change.

I'm not sure if it will be possible to write HD-DVD/Bluray 3D playback software. Probably pure software decoding will not be possible for copyright reasons. If a secure video path is used without any access of video data for software, it is impossible.
