Hy everybody !

I`m wondering if there`s a way to convert interlaced 3D DVD`s to SENSIO format (side by side).
Does anybody know if that`s possible ? Of course for using at home...

Field sequential 3D is interlaced with one set of lines for one eye's perspective and the other set of lines for the other perspective. To convert that to side-by-side format you have to "deinterlace to side-by-side", and resample the height (and the width if you want squeezed images).
What is the exact SENSIO format? Do I remember it being asymmetrical, i.e., one side of the pair is wider than the other? Excuse me if I am dreaming, but if that's the case, you'd also have to resample the width of each side, separately, then.
Interlaced 3D converted to side-by-side pairs is an easy conversion with StereoMovie Maker or VirtualDub freewares, but if you need to make an asymmetrical width adjustment, AFAIK, you'd probably need to use an AviSynth script or commercial software like Adobe After Effects.

Uh, oh... whoopsie :-)
If your source is NTSC, it has a 2:3 pulldown applied, and most of the ones I have looked at cannot be properly deinterlaced because they apparently used a standard 2D 2:3 pulldown process and/or some sort of frame blending process that (IMO and some other peoples' opinion) destroyed the fields. This created a temporal artifact that is very irritating to me (and some other people).
Anyway, this is totally OT, but I just thought I'd be fair and throw this in :-) The temporal artifacts shouldn't be any more *noticeable* after the deinterlacing, so I guess if the original movie was acceptable to you, then this is not a concern :-)

Saving a stereo movie should be simple if you are using StereoMovie Maker. Just save the movie (under "File" > "Save Stereo Movie") as "side-by-side". Be sure to use the "Resize" _and_ "Resample" options and use half the width of a compliant DVD MPEG, e.g., 360 for NTSC. I know this seems strange, but you will get a squeezed 720x480 side-by-side pair this way, and you will need to do that in order to get most stand-alone DVD players to play the video.
If you don't know how to make a DVD, that is a topic that can better be researched here:

I found some info in teh SENSIO format in this forum.

"Basically it is side by side squeezed 720x480 image with a 6 pixel vertical black border up the middle of the 2 images. The image on the left is 360 pixels wide, then the 6 pixel border then a 354 pixel image on the right"

How do i handle these DVD`s now ?
Thank you for your help, Puppet, i`m a totally newbie to stereoscopic... ;)

Well, the official spec sheet from SENSIO says it`s 640x480 (square pixels after scaling).

Does that help ?

Hmmm. Thanks. That's what I thought I remembered ;-)
At this point, it would help if you would tell us why you want to convert these, or how you want to view these. Are you using proprietary Sensio equipment? If, so, I think you will need that exact asymmetrical format (I guess, for some reason). If you are not using Sensio gear, you might just need symmetrical, squeezed side-by-side images, as I told about in the previous message. It all depends on what you are using to view them. Tell us :-)
"Compliant" NTSC DVD's are usually 720x480, but they are usually "scaled" during playback to fit your monitor or equipment, and that can include a 640x480 resolution, which is one standard "square pixel" resolution for some monitors.

Also, along with the information about what you want to use to view them, tell us if you are familiar with VirtualDub or AviSynth, or if you have Adobe After Effects.
There might also be stereoscopic software with Sensio support, but I don't think StereoMovie Maker has it.
I think you can do the conversion with one AviSynth script, but I'm not an AviSynth *expert*, so I'd have to do my homework on that one ;-) It would be easier to use VirtualDub and then StereoMovie Maker, but that will require rendering separate left and right AVI's from VirtualDub, and depending on your computer speed and file space capabilities plus the length of the movie, that might be challenging :-)

Oh god, this intend get more difficult than i ever imagined...
Okay. I own a SENSIO processor and two sensio dvd`s. Because the sensio-dvd's are very expensive for me to buy (i`m from Austria) i thought i could take a few cheap interlaced dvd`s and convert them into Sensio format.
I`m familiar with VirtualDub and i have After Effects but not AviSynth.

More details...
As i said i want to make interlaced dvd to sensio dvd, playing with my ScreenPlay 4805 and Samsung DVD-Player.
Disc space and fast pc is no problem... ;o)

Sorry this is so difficult.
My point is if you want to play these new 3D DVD conversions through the "Sensio processor", they probably have to be in "Sensio format", which has the strange, unique offset in pixels as you described.
So, I am now assuming that you want to continue to use the "Sensio processor".
You said that you need to convert the movies to "side by side squeezed 720x480 image with a 6 pixel vertical black border up the middle of the 2 images. The image on the left is 360 pixels wide, then the 6 pixel border then a 354 pixel image on the right"."
I have one more question: Is the image on the right a "squeezed image" in comparison to the left image, i.e., it is 6 pixels less in width but with no cropping? I will assume "yes", but it could possibly have pixels cropped off instead.
Since I have never done this exactly, I would have to go through the steps to be able to tell you the exact steps, but you can open the original in VirtualDub or StereoMovie Maker, "Deinterlace" to "side-by-side", resample the width and height to 720x480, add "save as left/right movie" in StereoMovie Maker, or in VirtualDub, "Null Transform" and crop of the right half and save that as your new left image, then crop off the left half and save that as your new right image. I would then use After Effects to place them side-by-side in one 720x480 composition and do any additional resizing and shifting, if needed, depending on what all needs to be done.
You might also be able to figure out how to resize and shift everything in VirtualDub, but it may not be the easiest way.
You also may be able to properly deinterlace the original in After Effects by "nudging" the 60fps "deinterlaced" movie over one frame on the timeline to successfully render left and right sides. As you can imagine, using StereoMovie Maker or VirtualDub is probably easier for that part, because you already have a filter with the proper settings available.
Let me know if you get stuck and I'll try to sort things out :-)

Hey Puppet !
Sorry but it`ll take me some time to try things out you mentioned... One question: How do i exactly get the picture info form the sensio dvd ? I mean the pixels.

You have to look very carefully at one frame, and that frame has to include a good object for this purpose, like a simple shape, e.g., a box, the edge of a building, etc, that has a "definable" width that you can measure.
I would double the width of the side-by-side frame and then measure the distance of the object from the left to the right side in each perspective view. If the left image shows the object is a bit wider than that same object in the right view, then the right perspective has been "squeezed" and not cropped.
If the right image has not been "squeezed", then you will have to determine whether the left side or the right side of the right perspective has been cropped off. I would look at a number of frames and see if I could draw a conclusion, but you might have to view one on a computer and compare it to one viewed with the Sensio equipment to be able to come to a good conclusion. You should be able to see a slight difference in the stereo window and determine which way the horizontal shift was made.
If you have a hard time understanding how to do this, if you could possibly upload a few good frames for this purpose, for educational purposes only, then I (or others) could help analyze this.
