In preparation for my 3D setup I bought three 3D movies from ebay: Jaws, Friday the 13th, and Dial M for Murder. They were interlaced stereo DVDs so I was expecting to play them w/ the excellent 'stereoscopic player' software. These movies are a must for any 3D fans w/ a dual projector setup - they look great! But it took me all day to get them to work so i wanted to pass on some tips if you run across these or other 3D dvds. First, I had to use the "Cyberlink Video" decoder in the video decoder settings, and the "AC3Filter" for audio decoder. Cyberlink audio didn't work for some readon. Before you click "File..Open DVD" you have to first open the DVD with the PowerDVD application to unlock the disc. Set "File..Layout" to "Interleaved, Left Line First" and "View..Viewing Method" to "Dual Screen Output" Most importantly, go to "File..Video Decoder Properties" and select "Force weave" under video mode. Now all you need to do is spend the rest of the day aligning and color-matching your projectors  Also, wanted to ask if anyone knew if it matters whether you select Interlaced left line first of right line first? cbrack at myrealbox dot com | ||

Of course you could correct this by swapping the left and right projectors or use another viewing method (e.g. blue-red instead of red-blue), but that's not the recommended way to do it. By the way, did you try the GPL MPEG Decoder instead of the Cyberlink decoder? For unencrypted discs, this decoder usually works best (and it's configured automatically). It's a pity I can't release the DeDCC-enabled version due to legal issues, but if you e-mail me... PS: If anybody knows the programming interfaces to switch the Cyberlink or WinDVD decoder to interlaced mode, I could integrate this feature in my player (which would make DVD playback much easier to use). I already contacted both Cyberlink and InterVideo, but both refused to tell me the interfaces, even under NDA. | ||

I would be curious to get an opinion on 3D DVDs bought on Ebay,as these titles appear to be almost impossible to find .Does anybody know how they are created ?Any opinion on Quality ? | ||

I have played several movies I got from ebay using this method and most work great, but on a couple I see the entire screen in the left half of the frame, and the right half has the initial dvd menu--the 3d is even correct, it is just half the size it should be as the menu stays in the right half of the screen. Does anyone have any idea why this might happen and if there is any way to fix it? (and other films I have don't do this... and all play fine through a regular tv) Any ideas would be appreciated! | ||

The reason is that many of the 'unofficial' movies sold on ebay are not encoded at full horizontal resolution. Some DVD decoders are unable to handle this low res format properly and display a half size image. You can try another decoder to get rid of this problem. Which decoder are you currently using? | ||

I've tried it using both the cyberlink (powerdvd)decoder and the GPL one. It is the same with both. | ||

Brian try a program called DVD2one which has a free trial period and select Movie mode it will rebuild the Vobs of your faulty 3d DVD's on your hard drive eliminating all menus, and play the offending movies direct from your hard drive. |
