The X-eye is out on the market in april, should we buy it or is it worth waiting for the X-viewer? What is the FOV of the X-viewer again (the X-eye have about 40)?

I didn´t try the X-eye, but I can say anyway that I want the one with the largest FOV.

We will be making announcements about XViewer in March, and plan to be at CEBIT (March 18th) with the first units. We will also be showing a professional model. We are not releasing any specs right now, but I can tell you they are all LCD based devices.

My guess is that the X-Eye and our unit will be shipping around the same time.

All I meant by my question was, in this business (as you should all know by now), I would try before you buy or wait to see some real reviews by qualified industry people.

YAY steve...
So you will be releasing the x-viewer(original specs) "plus" a pro model "this year"?

Can you tell us "your faithful enthusiasts" ANYTHING about the pro model?

Sorry I couldn't wait any longer. I E-mailed you and recieved an "unable to send" message from my server. I then E-mailed your tech dept. to foward it to you and recieved no response from them or you. Kind of a bummer actually 'cause I bought an X1 projector instead. The 120" screen is pretty cool and I'm now working on setting it up for stereo viewing using my Eye3D. Had you answered, your company would have gotten my grand instead of Infocus. You might want to pass this on to your tech dept. so they don't screw up any other potential sales.

Steve has been saying for the last few years that the XViewer is "coming out soon". I doubt any of us will ever see this happen.

A reason could be the new pro model... Why would they make an additional pro model, have a demo unit at cebit and then not release anything when it is most likely complete.

Hey steve, Have you used the x-eye? Can you tell us when you do.. Maybe some pros/cons compared to the xviewer

Hi Guys,

I will kick the tech dept in the butt today, would you believe we still get 150 or so emails a week for VFX1 support.

The pro model is a derivative of a custom HMD we built last year for a customer. It is done, but has never been shown to anyone except the group that paid for it.

I did have a chance to test drive the X-Eye at CES. It was a prototype and had all of the issues prototypes have, but the display was nice. I am bad at guessing on FOV, but 35 might be a stretch. It is not an immersive HMD, their focus I think is really on the video market, which is smart. It also has an IPD adjustment, which we always try and stay away from. Price was right though, they said ~$500 without a tracker.

Yes I have been saying we will have product forever. And I suck. Sometimes you just have to focus on business that will pay the bills and allow you to move forward with the technology. For example, did anyone know that IIS supplies the display system for the Army's Lightweight Thermal Weapon System? Probably not. We supply Night vision display modules to many companies today, which has finally allowed us to get to this point.

Again, thanks for the info Steve. I´m glad things are finally happening. 2004 seems to become an interesting year for Virtual Reality...

I think the 150 emails or so a week shows that if you can come up with a "VFX1 like" product then you'll be in good shape.

SteveIIS,

I know you don't want to say much, But will the "PRO" model have higher res. above 800*600 and a larger FOV. then the standard model ?

I'm waiting for a good HMD also to make a FPS system for DOOM III. X-viewer will hopefully be the one. If it sucks, then maybe the X-eye.
