I know it has been asked before, but one more time. Which is better the... Virtua Track type tracker... OR GYRO Track type of tracker? Yes, I know there are two company's selling both of these product's under differant name's but this is not about that...Just which type of tracker is better...? | ||

Virtua Track does both mouse emulation and key mapping. Gyro Track is mouse emulation only. | ||

The Gyro trackers dont need any additional software. Just plug them in and go. | ||

It seem's I remember seeing alot of post with people having problem's with getting the Virtua Track type tracker working right. I haven't seen post like that for the Gyro trackers. Maybe the Gyro tracker would be better then the Virtua Track. Anyone have more input on this subject ? | ||

Key mapping is a must for any flight simulator. The gyro trackers simply won't work. | ||

So are the Virtua Track driver's good now ? Is the Virtua Track a better buy now then it was in the past? | ||

I found the virtua track's drivers to not be very good. They are called FireTracker or something like that. Their operation was shifty and I was not impressed. Also, although I am still working on it, it is not easy to get these working in Linux. Reverse engineering of the device's communication specs and processing have had to be done to figure most things out as the company was not interested in teling me anything. The InterTrax2 has better operation and libraries to make developing with the device much easier (even in Linx) so i recommened it, despite its price. Personally I would also prefer the Gyrotrack due to its ability to be plugged in without middleware . | ||

I use my Virtua with my homemade flight simulator and it works pretty good. I needed the key mapping most of all. | ||

You could also try trackIR. It's not full 3d tracking but it seems to be more reliable than 'virtuatrak' and at $99 or less much cheaper. http://www.pcaviator.com/shop/viewAProduct.php?pid=61 | ||

I will stick with my Virtua it works fine for my use and I haven't had a problem with it at all. I thought about the trackIR but only 28 degress of tracking and having to sit close to my monitor does not appeal to me. |
