What is the minimum refresh rate of a monitor when shutterglasses are used? My glasses demand 90 Hz, but I think 120 Hz should be best. I am planning on buying a new monitor, and I like to know what you think that is the minimum refresh rate to play games a lot without headaches.

I have a 19' LG Flatron 915FT Plus which is capable of high refresh rates and have tried a lot of different settings. In my experience, 120Hz is the lowest refresh rate here flickering isn't noticed. However, i usualy play at 800x600@144Hz. At that rate the flickering is simply non-existant and i can play for hours without headaches. My advice would be to check which refresh rates are possible at which resolutions. 1024x768@120Hz and 800x600@140Hz would be good. The monitor i own (don't know if it's still in the market) is capable of 1024x768@120Hz, 800x600@144Hz and 640x480@200Hz and i couldn't be more happy with it.

I can go as low as 85Hz (Samsung 900SL+) without getting seriously annoyed. But the truth is that 100 or 120Hz is needed. Above that I don't notice *any* difference myself. Tested up to 144Hz the monitor/card combo is able.

Thus I would guess that 100-120Hz is needed, and more is not beneficial because of ghosting.

But then again I would say that if your graphics card is able, then you should go for higher resolution. My optimum is 1024x768 100 or 120Hz, no difference to my eyes. 640x480 is just too small resolution, even if it is flicker free - and you get the extra ghosting anyway. :-/
