I just picked up a couple of nice little monitors, 9" 1024x768 at 16bit, and I'm thinking of turning them into a dedicated 3d visualization station by mounting them side by side with some sort of hood or screen between them to focus the eyes.

Does anyone have any idea of what kinds of optics or setup would be best for this kind of thing? I'm going to prototype the setup in cardboard first, but need some help with exactly what kind of lenses or other material I'd need to focus the eyes correctly.

So, please, help..:)

Hey dammeron,

I'm working on something similar which requires transmitting a monitor's image to the eyes. What kind of field of view(FOV) are you looking for? I'm working on 60 deg. I'm getting a pretty good image with:

Eyepiece-
Bought from surplus place. "5 element erfle design. Coated optics. 60 degree field of view, 16mm eye relief, and 35mm clear exit aperture."
